Elephant Census

According to the recent elephant survey 5879 elephants have been recorded island wide,

The report issued by the Wild Life Department of Sri Lanka further states  that 122 tuskers and 1107 calves have been discovered in the survey. 

 Most number of elephants have been recorded by Mahaweli Region and more than 1000 elephants exists in Wayamba and Eastern provinces.  Elephant census has been carried out in 1993 previously in Sri Lanka
